The man under the sheet was silent and still, contemplating his response. He could feel all eyes on him, something he knew all to well. He hated it, it was distracting. Finally, after what felt like half a minute, he finally spoke.

"A failure," was his answer. "A fool who faithfully followed random, meaningless words to the ruin of the world, believing he could change its fate...that's who I am."

The black man scoffed at this answer.

"Fine," he replied, turning away in a huff of frustration. "Avoid sharing your identity with us if that is what you wish...but...will you at least share what you know?"

Again, the man under the sheet was silent and still. However, his answer came much sooner this time.

"...I will," he answered. "If everyone will listen, I will tell you what I know."
This is a short, 6-paragraph segment of the first chapter of the first book of a 5-book series I'm working on titled "The Legend of Ice". Hope you enjoy this little peek! ^_^

I am aware that there is a brief, racial description in this segment. If anyone is offended by it for whatever reason, I apologize. The reason for it is simply this: none of the four people in the foreshadowing part of the opening chapter has been given a name yet, so they're labeled by stereotypes or whatever physically distinguishes them from each other.
